CAN CLIP Installation Guide (V220 to V240)

Before we begin

  • Temporarily disable your antivirus during installation (and then re-enable it afterwards).
Ideally: add installation folders as exceptions to avoid false positives.

  • Work on a Windows administrator session .

  • Close any auto-starting software (antivirus, security services, “tuning/USB” suites, etc.).

  • Recommended versions : V231 / V234 are the most stable offline. Higher versions (≥ V237) may require online/token access and are often less compatible offline.

What you need to have

  1. Software archive

  • CAN CLIP V231.zip (or V234.zip / V236.zip ) containing Setup.exe

  1. Archive Drivers & Activation

  • DRIVERS ET ACTIVATION CAN CLIP.zip containing, among other things:

    • install.mp4 (installation video – optional)

    • Install Fix.reg (pre-installation registry patch)

    • DOSSIER VCI 3 : V9.0.1422.248.exe (VCI 3 drivers)

    • DOSSIER VCI 1 : Bosch Driver.exe and RENAULT VCI Driver 1.8.9.0708.exe (VCI 1 / Renault VCI drivers)

    • setup-Register.exe (software activation)
    • Word documents for Wi-Fi mode (VCI 3)

Unzip each archive into its own folder (right click → Extract).

Step A — System Preparation

  1. Unzip CAN CLIP V231.zip (or your version) into un dossier sur votre bureau.

  2. Unzip DRIVERS ET ACTIVATION CAN CLIP.zip into un dossier sur votre bureau.

  3. Double-click Install Fix.regYes to add to the registry.

This patch prepares the installation environment.

Step B — Software Installation

  1. Open the CAN CLIP installation folder and launch Setup.exe .

  2. Choose FIRST INSTALLATION .

  3. Accept the contract → Next .

  4. Choose languageNext → continue.

  5. Let the installer work (a few minutes).

  6. The PC restarts automatically.
→ At this stage, CAN CLIP is installed .

Step C — Activation (official license)

  1. Go to C:\CLIP_X91\Lib\Application\ and launch RSRWin.exe .

  2. Click: “I Understand…”“Register me now” .

  3. Next, open the provided key generator:
    setup-Register.exe

  4. In the generator, enter:

    The serial number displayed previously,

    The date: 31/12/29
    Then click on Generate.

Note: Depending on the configuration, these fields may already be filled in. In that case, simply click Generate.
The activation key is displayed in the lower field.

  5. Copy this activation key, return to the Clip Registration window, paste the key into the provided field, and then validate.

  6. Activation is now complete and functional.

Step D — Driver (probe) installation

If you have a VCI 1 (Renault VCI, equipment prior to 2025)

  1. Install Bosch Driver.exe .

  2. Install RENAULT VCI Driver 1.8.9.0708.exe .

  3. (Optional) Before opening CAN CLIP, launch Renault VCI Driver to check/update the probe's firmware and license if necessary.

If you have a VCI 3 (recent equipment, since 2025)

  1. Install V9.0.1422.248.exe (VCI 3 drivers) and follow the wizard. “VCI Manager (RNM)” will be created on the desktop.

  2. Connect the VCI 3 to the PC (USB).

    • Windows will display “Device not recognized” for a few seconds → this is normal .

    • The probe beeps once when it is recognized and the two red right lights on the probe are lit (PC and Power).

  3. Launch “VCI Manager (RNM)” from your desktop.

    • Verify that the probe appears with an SN: xxxxx .

    • Click Connect .

  4. Close VCI Manager (RNM) before launching CAN CLIP. This will not interrupt the connection, but this step is essential for the software to function correctly.

  5. Launch CAN CLIP from the Desktop shortcut.

Step E — First use and checks

  • USB cable properly inserted, ignition on in the vehicle.

  • In CAN CLIP, check the VCI detection .

  • If you are using a VCI 3 over Wi-Fi , follow the included Word document for configuration (SSID, password, AP/Client mode, etc.).

Best practices & common pitfalls

  • Driver conflict : Do not install both driver families (VCI1 and VCI3) together on the same machine. Install only those corresponding to your probe.

  • Antivirus : Remember to reactivate your antivirus software after installation and add the folder C:\CLIP_X91\ to your exceptions list.

  • USB & power : use a rear USB port (desktop PC) and avoid unpowered hubs.

  • Windows compatibility : Run as Administrator . If an error occurs, test compatibility mode (right-click → Properties → Compatibility).

  • Versions ≥ V237 : often less functional offline and likely to require tokens online → favour V231 / V234 for offline use.

Rapid troubleshooting

  • CAN CLIP does not see the probe

    • VCI 1: reinstall Bosch Driver + Renault VCI Driver , connect directly via USB, restart the PC.

    • VCI 3: Make sure you have installed V9.0.1422.248.exe , reconnect the probe (wait for the beep ), open VCI Manager (RNM)Connect → close → launch CAN CLIP.

  • Persistent “Device not recognized” message (VCI 3)

    • Change USB ports, restart, reinstall the VCI 3 package.

  • Installer blocked

    • Return to a clean Windows (without other diagnostic suites active), disable third-party services, empty %temp% , restart as Admin.

Final checklist

  • Antivirus disabled during installation and then re-enabled

  • Install Fix.reg applied

  • CAN CLIP installed ( FIRST INSTALLATION ) + restart

  • License activated via RSRWin.exe

  • Drivers corresponding to your probe installed (VCI 1 or VCI 3)

  • VCI 3: VCI Manager (RNM)Connect → close before CAN CLIP

  • CAN CLIP launched successfully, sensor recognized, vehicle test successful
