Complete Installation Tutorial – VAG HEX ATMEGA162 Cable (VCDS / VAG-COM)

⚠️ IMPORTANT – READ BEFORE STARTING

Please follow this tutorial carefully . Any incorrect handling may result in the cable becoming permanently blocked .

1. Compatibility and prerequisites

Compatible systems

• Windows 7 / 8 / 10 / 11

• 32-bit and 64-bit

Essential prerequisites

• PC with administrator rights

• VAG HEX ATMEGA162 cable

• Software provided: VCDS-Release-2xx-x-Installer.exe

• File: VCDSLoader.exe

2. Mandatory safety rules

Before installing or using the software:

A. Disable the Internet connection

• Unplug the Ethernet cable or

• Turn off Wi-Fi

👉 The software must never access the Internet .

B. Disable antivirus software

Temporarily disable:

• AVG

• McAfee

• Avast

• BitDefender

• Other third-party antivirus software

⚠️ Antivirus programs may delete or block files essential to the cable's operation.

C. Disable Windows Defender

1. Open Windows Security

2. Protection against viruses and threats

3. Settings

4. Disable real-time protection

D. Block VCDS in the Windows Firewall

⚠️ Do not disable the firewall

1. Open Windows Defender Firewall

2. Advanced settings

3. Outbound traffic rules

4. Create a new rule

5. Program → select:

   • VCDS.exe

   • VCDSLoader.exe

3. Installing the VCDS software

Step 1 – Program Installation

1. Launch:

   • VCDS-Release-2xx-x-Installer.exe

2. Follow the installation step by step

3. ⚠️ Windows 64-bit only :

   • Please check the following box:
     “Install 32-bit EXE on 64-bit System”

4. Complete the installation normally

Step 2 – Do not launch VCDS

⚠️ At the end of the installation:

• DO NOT run VCDS

• Delete all VCDS shortcuts from the desktop

👉 This step is essential.

Step 3 – Installing VCDSLoader

1. Copy the file:

   • VCDSLoader.exe

2. Paste it into the installation folder:

 C:\Ross-Tech\VCDS

3. Right-click on VCDSLoader.exe

4. Create a shortcut on the desktop

👉 Only VCDSLoader.exe should be used to launch the software .

4. Initial cable connection (PC only)

1. Connect the VAG HEX ATMEGA162 cable to the PC (without connecting it to the car)

2. Wait a few seconds while Windows installs the driver

3. Launch VCDSLoader.exe

Self-test

4. Click on Options

5. Run the Self-Test

6. Click on Save data

7. Close the software completely

5. Connecting to the vehicle

1. Close all VCDS software

2. Connect the cable to the vehicle's OBD port.

3. Turn the ignition on (without starting the engine).

4. Launch VCDSLoader.exe

The software is now ready to be used.

6. Important Usage Rules

✔ Always launch the software via VCDSLoader.exe
✔ Always work offline
✔ Never update the software
✔ Never use another version

❌ Do not connect the cable until installation is complete
❌ Do not ignore the safety steps

7. Common Problems

The cable is not recognized

• Check the drivers

• Change USB port

• Repeat the self-test

The software does not start

• Antivirus still active

• File deleted by Defender

2. Restart the computer

3. Reinstall a new version of the VCDS software provided
