Install PSA Diagnostic Software (Series 9.x – 9.85) on Windows, without a virtual machine
This tutorial explains how to install a PSA 9.x diagnostic environment (version 9.85) directly on a Windows PC, using a native installation (without a VM). ℹ️ Important information: unreadable text during installation
During installation, some text may appear unreadable (inconsistent characters). This is normal: it depends on the Windows encoding used by some installers.

⚙️ Prerequisites before installation
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- A PC running Windows 7 / 8 / 10 / 11 (64-bit).
- The provided archive unpacked (via WinRAR or 7-Zip).
- Administrator rights on your Windows session.
- Temporarily disabled antivirus and Windows Defender during installation.
- Run installers by right-clicking → Run as administrator.
Why? Protections can block/delete files and cause installation failure or an unrecognized interface.
🗂️ Step 1 — Unpacking the archive
- Locate the downloaded archive.
- Right-click → Extract here (or use WinRAR / 7-Zip).
- After extraction, you will get a folder containing the installation file.
🧱 Step 2 — Creating and excluding the AWRoot folder
- Create the folder:
C:\AWRoot - Add
C:\AWRootto the exclusions of your antivirus and Windows Defender.

- Search for: Exclusions / Exceptions / Exclude a folder.
- Add
C:\AWRootand confirm.
Important: Never move the C:\AWRoot folder after installation.
💿 Step 3 — Software installation (native installation)
- In the extracted folder, locate the installation file.
- Right-click → Run as administrator.
- Follow the wizard until the end (do not close the window before it finishes).

🧠 Step 4 — Driver installation
Display info: a driver file may appear with an unreadable name. This is due to encoding. The goal is simply to launch the driver installation.
- On the desktop (or in the installation folder), locate the driver installation file.
- Double-click to launch the driver installation.
- Follow the wizard until the end.
If an error appears: restart the driver file in administrator mode.
🔌 Step 5 — Connecting the interface
- Connect your interface to the computer.
- Open Device Manager.
- Verify that it is recognized under: ACTIA USB Devices.
- It may appear under: USB Com Board Evolution Driver (UMDF).

⚙️ Step 6 — Initial configuration (language)
- Launch the application.
- On first startup, the interface may open in another language.
Changing the language
- If a software update check is offered: click No.
- Click the icon in the top left corner of the main screen.
- Open Settings / Configuration.
- Choose the language option, then select English.
- Close and restart the application.
🔄 Step 7 — Interface update (if prompted)
- If an automatic interface update appears, let it complete.
- Do not unplug the interface during this step.
✅ Step 8 — Final verification
- Connect the interface to the vehicle and the PC.
- Launch the application from the desktop shortcut.
- Verify that:
- the interface is detected,
- the PSA welcome screen appears,
- vehicle communication is functional.
💡 Useful tips
- Check the compatibility of your interface with series 9.x.
- Reactivate your antivirus once the installation is complete.
- Never move
C:\AWRoot. - In case of detection issues, restart driver installation (administrator mode).
- On a laptop: plug it into mains power throughout the installation.
