VMware Workstation Player 17 & AUTODATA 3.40 FR (Windows XP virtual machine)

This guide explains step by step:

• installing VMware Workstation Player 17

• The correct opening of the AUTODATA 3.40 FR virtual machine (Windows XP)

• the use of AUTODATA 3.40 FR in the virtual machine

✅ PREREQUISITES

• PC running Windows 8 / 10 / 11

• Administrator rights on the PC

• Virtualization enabled in the BIOS
  (Intel VT-x / AMD-V)

• Antivirus temporarily disabled (recommended)

• WinRAR or 7-Zip installed for extraction

• File provided:
  AUTODATA 3.40 FR (VM).rar

🔹 STEP 1 – Download VMware Workstation Player 17

Download VMware Workstation Player 17.6.2
(Windows 8/10/11 compatible version)

🔹 STEP 2 – Installing VMware Workstation Player

1. Launch the VMware installation file

2. Follow the installation wizard
   (recommended default options)

3. When applying for a license:

   • Select "Use VMware Workstation Player for personal use"

4. Complete the installation

5. Restart your PC if prompted.

🔹 STEP 3 – Downloading the AUTODATA virtual machine

Download the provided archive:

AUTODATA 3.40 FR (VM).rar

🔹 STEP 4 – Extracting the virtual machine

1. Right-click on AUTODATA 3.40 FR (VM).rar

2. Choose :

   • Extract here

   • or Extract to a folder

You will receive a folder containing several files, including:

• AUTODATA_3.40_FR.vmx

• .vmdk files (virtual disk)

⚠️ Important

• Do not modify the files

• Do not move the items individually

• Keep the file as is

🔹 STEP 5 – Opening the AUTODATA virtual machine

1. Open VMware Workstation Player

2. Click on Open a Virtual Machine

3. Navigate to the extracted folder

4. Select the file:

5. Confirm

🔹 STEP 6 – First startup of the virtual machine

On the first launch, VMware displays the message:

“This virtual machine might have been moved or copied”

➡️ You must choose:

✅ I MOVED IT

⚠️ Do not click on “I Copied It”
(otherwise there is a risk of hardware identifier problems and software malfunctions)

The Windows XP virtual machine then starts automatically.

🔹 STEP 7 – Access to AUTODATA 3.40 FR

• AUTODATA 3.40 FR is already installed and configured

• No additional installation is required

Launch :

1. From the Windows XP desktop

2. Double-click on AUTODATA 3.40 FR

3. The software starts directly

You can consult:

• technical data

• diagrams

• repair procedures

• vehicle information

⚠️ IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER

• Always launch AUTODATA from the virtual machine

• Never update Windows XP in the VM

• Do not install antivirus software in the virtual machine.

• Do not modify the VM's hardware settings.

• Do not move the VM's internal files

• The VM is optimized and lightweight: any modification could make it unstable

• Use AUTODATA only via VMware

• Shut down Windows XP properly (Shutdown)

• Never suspend the virtual machine

• Keep a backup copy of the VM folder
